* Genealogy: When I was young, I remember going to family reunions. I learned that my 2nd cousin's 7th cousin was Billy the Kid, and that one of my grandmothers was somehow related to Martha Washington. Since I learned of the Church, I have discovered how important genealogy is. I also discovered a great uncle who joined the Church in Eastern Oregon, and was able to meet and spend time with him and many of his family of seven children. See My Origins and My Pedigree (Family Tree).

* Languages: English, Spanish (2 years in high school), NT Greek (1 year in college), Hebrew (from books), Russian (half a term in college), Chinese (from a college roommate), Japanese (on Okinawa), Latin (from books), American Sign Language (from books), Gregg Shorthand (self-taught from a book and used it in a calling as executive secretary to my Bishop)

* Politics: Registered Republican, I believe this country was founded on dependency on and faith in God, I believe in individual responsibility rather than letting the government do what we can do as individuals or communities, in the sanctity of marriage and the traditional family, in treating my neighbors with respect whether or not their views agree with my own. I believe we need to be careful we don't lose our traditional values while we continue to improve the way we treat our fellow man. I believe "political correctness" is hypocritical. See Freedom and Peace.
