JUNE 2010

On June 1, 2010, Tuesday, Hurricane Season begins,
I got up at 7:45 am. For breakfast, I had an egg sandwich, apple wedges, and oatmeal. I shaved, dressed, and packed for the temple. I checked my online messages. I got my 55,000th rave on Sodahead. I went out front and waited for my ride. Winda brought me an apple. Steve picked me up at 9:30 am. We picked up Andy and went to the temple. I changed into my temple clothes and went to the chapel. Steve wheeled me to Endowment Room #2. We had 9 patrons: 6 brothers and 3 sisters. Two extra sisters came in to make up enough for the Order of Prayer. I brought Andy through the veil. I changed back into my street clothes. Steve was the last one out of the temple, so I wheeled around the temple and took photos. I ate the apple Winda gave me on the way home. Steve got me home by 2 pm. I got my new order of Acetaminophen plus an order of Senna that no one had ordered, but is on my meds list. Winda fed me some soup and another apple. I updated my web journal, copied my photos to the computer, and checked my online messages. I watched FOXNews. For supper, I had noodles and beef, orange wedges, and cranberry sherbet. I watched "The O'Reilly Factor". Elaine phoned about 6:30 pm. She learned one of the arteries in her neck is 80% blocked by plaque. She expects surgery next week. We talked for 45 minutes. I watched "Bones" and "Glenn Beck".

On June 2, 2010, Wednesday,
I got up at 7:45 am. For breakfast, I had an egg sandwich and granola cereal with milk. I packed for the water exercise class. I checked my online messages. I watched "Royal Pains". I downloaded the OneTouch logbook for my CBG meter in PDF. For lunch, I had a hamburger and spicy fries. I checked my online messages. I changed into my swimwear and wore my wool poncho. I waited inside for my ride as it was raining. A MetroWest driver picked me up and drove me, via I-84, to the Providence Medical Center for my water exercise class. I was there 40 minutes early I took my cleansing shower, paid my $2.50, and waited at one end of the pool for my time to enter. I visited with a couple of other women there who were also waiting. I noticed som gradual stairs at the shallow end of the pool and decided I could handle them, so when it came my time to get in, I used them, and did fine, except for the last step being greater than I anticipated. I did a better job with my exercises than last week and I am hoping for less soreness afterward. I managed to use the steps to climb out, too. I went to the locker room, dried myself, and changed into clean clothing for the trip home. I had fifteen minutes before my ride was due to arrive, so I went down the hall and found the restaurant (which was closed) and a snack machine and a drink machine. I bought a FiberOne bar and a bottle of Cherry Coke and finished them while I waited. Mike, the Elderplace driver, picked me and a lady from the exercise class up and took us home. .When I got home at 5:30 pm, the sun was shining. Winda had my supper ready. For supper, I had green beans and onions in a mushroom sauce, a brownie, chicken nuggets, and watermelon. I copied my photos to the computer and updated my web journal. I checked my online messages. I watched "NCIS", "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider", "In Plain Sight", and "Glenn Beck".

I wrote my three monthly checks. I bought 120 minutes and another 30 days service for my Tracfone for $14.99. I now have 260.5 Minutes and 184 days. I checked my online messages. I put my SPD check out to mail and gave Winda the rent check. I went online and ordered 3 size 54 extra tall Corban garments from the Church Distribution Center. On FOXNews I watched a private plane make a five-point emergency landing. I wheeled myself down to Fred Meyer, taking photos along the way. I got $40 cash from the ATM. I went to the Home Electronics and browsed. I began to sweat and to feel light-headed. My blood sugar was 76. I went to the checkouts, bought a Drumstick®, a bottle of Pepsi, and three Snickers bars, for sugar. I ate the Drumstick® and drank part of the Pepsi. I went to the Deli, the Dairy, and the Bakery. I bought to Lemon Squares for the House. I bought a magnetic dry erase board for my room. I had another low blood sugar, this time a 71. I ate one of my Snickers bars and finished the Pepsi. I used the restroom then started back. One of the employees offered to push me a ways. He pushed me to the top of the hill overlooking the parking lot. That was a great help. I wheeled the rest of the way home, arriving by 3 pm. I told Winda about my low blood sugars and she had me check it again; It was 144. I hung my new dry erase board on the wall at the head of my bed. I hung some things on it with magnets. I updated my web journal and copied my photos to the computer. I checked my online messages. For supper, I had half a lemon square, garlic bread, and spaghetti with meat sauce. I watched "The O'Reilly Factor" and "Burn Notice".

[Last Quarter Moon]
On June 4, 2010, Friday,

For breakfast, I had a cream-filled chocolate topped doughnut, an egg sandwich, three Vienna sausages, and a banana. I shaved with my electric razor. It's raining, so I put on my wool poncho. Lance picked me up at Lois' about 8:50 am. We got to Elderplace at 9:40 am. I weighed 310.6 lbs. I got Bibles from the library and cocoa from the McKenzie Room. We had the Bible Study in the Deschutes Room. There were just two of us, even though a couple more of the group were found to have been in the building. We had a good discussion about why we changed churches and finished up Matthew Chapter 5 from the "eye for an eye" passage. I sang karaoke from the Elderplace CDs. They had a red-yellow-white cord so I didn't need mine to hook the karaoke machine up to the TV. Someone filled out a food service survey with me. I had the fish for lunch. Becca (drove) and Michael (trained - it is his last week) got me home by 2:10 pm. Ed was already there. We visited while I checked my online messages. For supper, I had broccoli, chicken nuggets, baked potato, and watermelon. I watched "Executive Decision", "As Time Goes By", and "My Family".

On June 6, 2010, Sunday, D-Day (1944),
I woke up at 4 am to the noises of creatures screaming outside, cats or raccoons or both maybe. I couldn't get back to sleep for at least an hour. I got up at 7:50 am. For breakfast, I had and egg sandwich, four doughnut holes, a multi-grain cold cereal with milk, apple wedges, and orange juice. I tried taking a nap but the noises outside continued. I am beginning to think the baby raccoons are hungry. I got up at 10 am. I checked my online messages. For lunch, I had an egg salad sandwich, four doughnut holes, and some sauced noodles. I shaved, then phoned Larry who will pick me up. I checked my online messages. It was raining, so I put on my wool poncho. Larry was there when I looked out the window again. He took me to church. Brooklyn Papenfuss was blessed by her father. I walked, as the Spirit told me I could, from my wheelchair in the back row to the front of the chapel and up a couple of stairs to the platform. I sat and waited for others to bear their testimonies. I bore my testimony, adding to it that I knew God could help in all situations. I walked back to my wheelchair and sat down. After the meeting, in the hallway, I was approached by a woman that I didn't recognize that she had a motorized chair "like those advertised on TV" and asked would I like to have it. I told her yes, and that my health care plan wouldn't get me one unless I needed it to get around in my room. She said she would try to find a way to get it to me and she walked away. Sunday School was about Eli and His Sons and the young Samuel. In High Priest Group we went over some Group business and then discussed the highlights of the good the Group has done recently. Larry brought me home by 5:30 pm. He thinks he should be able to go to the temple with us Tuesday. For supper, I had peas, mashed potatoes, teriyaki chicken drumsticks, and ice cream. I updated my web journal.

On June 7, 2010, Monday,
I turned on the TV at 7:00 am to watch News. I got up at 7:30 am. I checked my online messages. For breakfast, I had an egg and tater tot sandwich, cornmeal mush, a banana, milk, and orange juice. I half-napped and watched Sitcoms. For lunch, I had macaroni and nacho cheese, crackers, a banana, and orange juice. I watched "CSI". I wanted to photograph the Moon, but that part of the sky was clouded over. I separated my two web pages for this year into separate monthly pages. I watched FOXNews. For supper, I had baby corn, Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes with gravy, watermelon, and orange juice. I watched FOXNews, "Bones", and "Transporter 2".

On June 8, 2010, Tuesday,
I got up at 7:20 am. I checked my online messages. For breakfast, I had eggs in an English muffin, Cinnamon Toast Crunch with milk, a banana, and orange juice. I saw the raccoon that is living under the house cross the deck to the side of the house, then run back through as if he had been startled, but I didn't have time to get my camera. I shaved, dressed, and packed for the temple. I went outside and Steve drove up as I was taking a photo of a plane flying overhead. We picked up Andy at his place then drove to the temple. I changed into my temple clothes, got a name, and went to the chapel. Steve pushed me to the Endowment Room. There were 32 patrons: 17 men and 15 women. I had to use the restroom halfway through the session. I didn't participate in the Order of Prayer since there were plenty of genuine couples. I was able to receive three patrons through the veil, including both Steve and Andy. I changed back into my street clothes and took my noon meds. I went outside and took a few photos before Steve brought up the car. I ate the cookies and banana that Winda gave me. I took more photos on the way home. Mt. St. Helens was beautiful from the West Side of Portland but I only got one picture of it. I got lots of Mt. Hood. Steve got me home by 2 pm. I changed out of my white shirt and tie, copied my photos to the computer, and updated my web journal. I checked my online messages. I got an email confirmation that my temple garments have been shipped. For supper, I had an egg salad sandwich (saved from lunch), a brownie, some beef stew, and watermelon. I watched "The O'Reilly Factor", "Reba", and "Bones".

On June 9, 2010, Wednesday,
I got up at 6:45 am. I got two partial glimpses of our raccoon, but could not get a photo. I checked my online messages. I learned that I am 434 in dog years. For breakfast, I had two pancakes, a fried egg, a banana, and applesauce. Ed showed up about 9:20 am. We watched "Lord of the Rings: The Twin Towers" on DVD. For lunch, I had an Oreo Cakester, a peanut butter and jam sandwich, and ramen with corn. Ed left at 12:30 pm when the movie ended. I checked my online messages. I changed into my swimwear and packed for the water exercise class. Mary, the Elderplace driver, picked me up at 1:45 pm. She picked up three more people at Glendoveer Elderplace before taking us all the the Providence Medical Center for the water exercise class. One of the people I had met a year ago in the Write Around Portland Writing Group. When I arrived at the Medical Center, I wheeled to the Restaurant while it was still open. I bought two boiled eggs, a bar of dark chocolate (making sure it didn't have jalapeno in fine print), and a bottle of Cherry Dr. Pepper. I ate the eggs immediately. I wheeled back to the exercise pool, paid my $2.50, and showered. I waited until I was told to go into the pool (2:55 pm) then used the stairs to enter the pool. There were 18 people in the pool, 4 of them were men. We did most of the exercises in place for a change. I got Sarah the instructor to take my photo in the deep end where I was the only one. The camera was set on 'A' not 'P' so the photos weren't the best quality (probably bumped in transporting it). I got out at 4 pm, dried off, and changed into fresh clothing. I waited in the lobby with several others waiting for a ride. Minnie and I waited the longest. I took my meds with some of the Dr. Pepper and had some of the chocolate. Matthew was 35 minutes late picking us up, took Minnie home first, and got me home by 5:55 pm. For supper, I had corn on the cob, Brussel's sprouts, carrots, breaded potato filled with tuna, and Neapolitan ice cream. I updated my web journal. I copied my photos to the computer. I watched "Bones". I checked my online messages. I watched "NCIS" and "In Plain Sight". I lent Norma 3 CDs: "Sgt. Pepper's", and 2 Irish Songs CDs.

On June 10, 2010, Thursday, Mom's 81st Birthday,
I got up at 7:25 am. I checked my online messages. I got an email from David Russell Arnett Jr, who found his name on my website. He corrected his sister's name for me, and I hope he will contact me again so we can visit. For breakfast, I had an egg sandwich, oatmeal with cinnamon and milk, a banana, and orange juice. I continued checking my online messages. Today is also Johnny Depp's birthday (1963). I phoned Mom a little after 9 am to wish her a Happy Birthday. She wished me an early Happy Birthday. We visited for 36 minutes. She got a snow globe for her birthday. I updated my web files to the Internet. I sang karaoke in my room. For lunch, I had a tuna sandwich, potato salad, and sandwich cookies. Afterward, Dan burned some microwave popcorn, then made another batch, which he shared with Margaret and me. There were a lot of unpopped kernals and I told Winda how to pop them in a covered skillet. She did great. It's been a rainy day. I watched "Burn Notice", then the History Channel, and took a nap. For supper, I had chicken breast, broccoli, noodles, cake, and cranberry sherbet. I watched "The O'Reilly Factor", "Hannity", and "Bones". Winda gave me a bag of popcorn for a nighttime snack.

On June 11, 2010, Friday,
I got up at 7:20 am. I checked my online messages. For breakfast, I had scrambled eggs with tomato and onion wrapped in slices of bread, apple wedges, and orange juice. At 8:30 am, I was going to go outside to wait for the bus to Elderplace, but it was sprinkling. I thought to get my wool poncho, but decided it wasn't worth it, that I would just wait inside for the bus. At 8:45 am, I noticed the rain had stopped, so I wheeled myself to Lois' to wait for the bus. Lance finally arrived at 8:55 am. We picked up Burley and arrived at Elderplace about 9:30 am. I weighed 312.2 lbs. I got Bibles from the Library for the Bible Study. Mrs. Potter and I were the only ones today. We studied all of Matthew 6 and had a nice visit besides. I put the Bibles back in the Library and went to the Sandy Room for karaoke. Chaplain Dale had provided three CD+Gs of Southern Gospel karaoke (24 songs). I knew most of them and they lasted until lunch arrived after noon. I had the baked fish. Dessert was bread pudding. I went out back and visited with the maintenance man who was setting up a gazebo thing. Then I went out front and waited for Becca to load me on the bus. I helped Becca with some of her navigation. She got me home by 2:10 pm. I updated my web journal and copied my photos to the computer. I checked my online messages. June 13, 2010, Sunday,
I got up at 6:50 am. I checked my online messages. I shaved, trimmed my eyebrows, and dressed for Church. For breakfast, I had three pancakes, a fried egg, and apple wedges. Tess gave me a large apple and a package of peanut bars to eat at Church. I went online and checked for the new Ward boundaries, but they haven't changed them online yet. Larry picked me up early, about 9 am. I sat in my usual spot at the back of the pews. They had the whole multi-purpose area opened up and set up for 880 people. By the time the meeting started it was nearly full. It was a joint meeting of the Damascus, Powell Vally, and Walters Hill Wards. Justin Benson, baptized yesterday, was confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and given a blessing. The Sacrament was blessed and passed among the congregation from three tables. We were then told that boundaries will change for each of the three Wards. Bishop Ipson's counselors were released, along with the two other bishops. The two released bishops bore their testimonies. Bishop Ipson's new counselors are Stephen Christianson and Mark D. Brandt. Mark R. Jensen is the new bishop of the Walters Hill Ward. The new bishops bore their testimonies. The Sacrament meeting ended and we began a new business meeting. We were told that we would all be members of new Wards, even if the new Ward has the same name as the old Ward. A map was projected on a large screen and the new boundaries were described to us. We were told if we still didn't understand what our new Ward was, we could ask one of the Ushers who carried lists that identified our new Wards. The reason the boundaries were redrawn was due to "disproportionality of growth". Even though I was sure I was in the new Powell Valley Ward, I asked an Usher. We then broke up into our new Wards for a few minutes starting at 11:45 am. I got tithing envelopes from the hallway, put my tithing in one, and handed it to the bishop. My new High Priest Group leader is Lyle Trammell and his counselors are Wilford Stevenson and Larry Hall. I waited for Larry as he got instructions and was set apart for his new calling. I updated my phone Contacts. A few people I am familiar are now in other Wards: Steve Lowder, for one. Br. Robrecht is now in my Ward. Larry got me home by 1:30 pm. I updated my web journal and copied my photos to the computer. Ed came over about 2 pm. I checked my online messages. Ed left to pick up a pizz at Zappo's. For supper, I had asparagus spears, a sausage, baked potatoes with butter, cake, and orange juice. Larry phoned and asked me to teach lesson #11, "The Life of Christ", next Sunday in High Priest Group. Ed and I watched "Newhart", "Barney Miller", and "Bomes". Ed went home at 8 pm. I got a bag of English muffins from Tess. I had an english muffin with peanut butter for an evening snack. I watched "Barney Miller".

He called right back. We will leave at the usual time for the temple. I checked my online messages. I went outside early to take photos. There was a fire engine parked in the street. Then an ambulance pulled up. After a bit, they brought a man from the house across the street out on a gurney. He was awake and alert. It began to sprinkle. Steve and Larry picked me up, then picked up Andy. We drove to the temple. I changed my clothes, got a name, and waited in the chapel. Steve pushed me to Endowment Room 2. There were 19 patrons, 11 brothers and 8 sisters. I did not participate in the Order of Prayer, but Steve did. When I got through the veil, I needed to use the restroom urgently, so didn't get to help anyone else through. I was the first one changed back into my street clothes, so I went out to tak pictures. It was raining hard, in fact, it began to thunder. Steve got the car and loaded us in. We returned home, mostly in the rain, but it stopped before we got to my place. I got three birthday cards, one from each of them. Then they went to get the bed that Andy had built for me. When I got to my room, there was a present on my bed, a pair of shorts. I tried them on. They are shorter than my new garments. I will have to try them with the old ones. I cleaned out the space where the new bed will go. I checked my online messages. Larry came first in his car, then Steve in his, then finally, Andy came with the new bed in his station wagon. The three of them brought it in and put it in the place the old one had been. It fit, though at first it didn't look like it would. Andy offered me a bigger TV. After they left, I made my new bed with one of my new sleeping bags. I hung my birthday cards on the wall. I updated my web journal and copied my photos to the computer. For supper, I had two hot dogs in a hoagie roll with mustard, dill pickles, cucumber chips, homemade potato salad, and lemon meringue pie. I moved my computer onto the concrete blocks I had supporting the bed. I watched "CSI" and "Reba".

We watched "In Plain Sight" and "CSI". Ed left at noon. For lunch, I had a banana, Graham cracker squares, cheeseburger macaroni, and orange juice. I packed and dressed for my water exercise class in my swim wear. I checked my online messages. I went outside at 1:30 pm to wait for my ride (due at 1:45 pm). It was 2:20 before a Metro West driver pulled up in front. I went to Green's Restaurant to get boiled eggs, but they were out. I bought a bottle of Mountain Dew and two bars of Milk Chocolate (a two for one deal) for later. I paid my $2.50 at the office (Sarah had already begun the class), chnged my shoes and showered. I was several minutes late getting into the pool, but I don't think I missed much. I had a good exercise. We used balls for the first time. There were 15 people in the pool and I was the only guy. Before getting out, I swam to the deep end and back for the fun of it. I changed into fresh clothes. Mike, the Elderplace driver, was early. June 22, 2010, Tuesday,
About 5 am, my phone was making little noises. When I finally checked it out, I had a couple of voice mails. Elaine's brother had called to tell me that Elaine is in Providence Hospital's Cardiac Care Unit and gave me the hospital's phone number and her room number. Larry also had called and left a message that he would pick me up at 9:30 if I don't call him and tell him I haven't found my temple recommend yet. So I was up by 5:30 am. I sent messages to Ernie via Facebook and Gmail that his mother is in the hospital. I checked my online messages. I sent an email to Dave and an FaceBook request to Joan. No Tylenol for 35 hours. For breakfast, I had an egg sandwich, oatmeal with cinnamon, a banana, milk, and orange juice. I phoned Larry to say I wouldn't be going to the temple today and told him about Elaine being in the hospital. I phoned the hospital, was given Elaine's direct number, then transferred to her phone, but it just rang with no one answering. I also tried the direct number, same result. I napped about three hours. For lunch, I had a hot dog in a hoagie roll, dill pickle, potato salad, a banana, and orange juice. I checked my online messages. I got ahold of Elaine by phone, and learned that the place where her angiogram entered had opened up again - that's why she is in the hopital. I learned nothing more because we were interrupted by a physical therapist. She asked me to call her back in about three hours. I updated my RealPlayer software, downloaded a "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavor on the Bedpost Overnight" video, an reviewed my own videos and some of my daughter's. I watched "FOXNews".
