MAY 2010

On May 1, 2010, Saturday, May Day,
I got up at 5:42 am. I checked my bank balance. It indicates my Disability deposit has been credited to my account, but shows a date of May 3rd - two days from now. I checked my online messages. I went back to bed at 6:30 am.
I got up at 7:15 am. For breakfast, I had an egg sandwich, half a banana, yogurt, and oatmeal. I checked my online messages. I listened to KKAD on the computer and took a nap. For lunch, I had a bologna sandwich and chowder.
Erin asked on Facebook: " 'Why is a raven like a writing desk?' ...not really my question. I just recalled that from Alice in Wonderland lol!"
So I looked it up and gave the answer, "Because it can produce a few notes, though… they are very flat; and it is nevar put with the wrong end in front!" (Note the spelling of "never" as "nevar"—turning it into "raven" when inverted.
I researched the Republican candidates for US Senator and selected Tom Stutzman as the person to vote for, out of seven candidates. There was only one candidate on the ballot for US Representative, Delia Lopez. I will vote for John Lim for Governor, out of nine candidates. The rest of the ballot was disappointing as there were sometimes no one running for a position, even when there were up to nine openings. I decided to vote for Ron Maurer over the incumbent for Superintendent of Public Instruction. I am voting for Jack L. Landau for the 5th position on the State Supreme Court. In spite of his somewhat intimidating looks (campaign photo), I am voting for Wes Soderback for the Chair of the Board of Multnomah County Commissioners. I will vote for Tom Hughes for Metro Council President. I will vote "No" on the two measures, one wanting to change the Oregon Constitution. I filled out my ballot with pencil, signed and stamped the envelope, and set it out for mailing. For supper, I had chicken strips, corn, macaroni salad, a chocolate cupcake, and a tropical fruit cup. I watched "NCIS", "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith", "As Time Goes By", and "My Family".

On May 2, 2010, Sunday,
I got up at 7:45 am. For breakfast, I had an egg sandwich, corn flakes, apple wedges, and a yogurt-granola bar. Someone tried to set off a car bomb in Times Square NY, but it fortunately did not go off, leaving evidence for the police to try to determine who is responsible. A ten-day old continuing oil spill is approaching the Gulf Coast shoreline. I checked my online messages. I took photos of my goldfish. I shaved, then when I went to take a bath, I found the bathroom was occupied. For lunch, I had a bologna and cheese sandwich, vegetable soup, and cookies. I dressed and packed for Church. I updated the web pages to my Pocket PC. I went outside and took photos until Larry picked me up. I saw four helicopters heading east to my north. At church, someone told me we were home teachers together, but I didn't get his name. Hopefully he will email me a list of our families and I will learn it. Vincent Watts Hefner was blessed by his father in Testimony meeting. I was assured by the Spirit in the meeting that I would have the strength to do my home teaching. Sunday School was about Balaam and his errors. In Priesthood, we divided into committees. Then Br. Chipman taught a lesson on how to get the most out of Conferences. He said that they give an inspired interpretation of scripture passages. Larry got me home by 5;30 pm. For supper, I had potatoes au gratin, ground beef cooked with cucumbers, and chocolate cake. I watched "Spiderman 3", "X-Men: The Last Stand", and Foyle's War". I downloaded the March, April, and May Ensigns to my computer.

On May 3, 2010, Monday,
I got up at 7:05 am. I wrote out my three monthly checks and prepared two of them for mailing. I checked my online messages. For breakfast, I had scrambled eggs between two waffles, tater tots fried with corned beef, and seedless grapes. I added 180 minutes (and 1 month service) to my Tracfone for $19.99. I added some photos to my Sodahead profile. I napped until noon. There were rain showers. For lunch, I had cheesy chowder with crackers, and apple wedges. I watched "Meet the Robinsons". I napped until 4:25 pm. For supper, I had fried chicken bits, rice with cheese, potato salad, a chocolate cupcake, and cherry ice cream with chocolate chips. I watched "CSI" and "NCIS". Through Amazon.com I ordered a DVD (Bicentenniel Man) for Phyllis and a book by Glenn Beck (Common Sense) for myself.

On May 4, 2010, Tuesday,
I got up at 7:30 am. I checked my online messages. My social worker from Elderplace, Susan, phoned me regarding the swim suits (saying J. C. Penny's and Sears had 3XL swimsuits) and regarding the Medicaid reapplication papers (she will check on being able to print my bank statement at Elderplace). Breakfast was running late. I had an egg, three roll halves, oatmeal, and apple wedges. I shaved, dressed, and packed for the temple. I went out on the front porch to wait for Steve. He picked me up at 9:30 am. We picked up Andy, then went to the temple. I changed into my temple clothes, got my new name, and waited in the chapel. Steve wheeled me up to the Endowment Room. He wasn't as sure of the way as Larry who didn't come this time. With an extra prayer, I made it all the way through the session without stopping it. I took part of the True Order of Prayer circle. There were 24 patrons: 13 brothers and 11 sisters. I took photos on the outside of the temple until it began to rain. On the way home, I probably learned the name of my home teaching companion, who left me a voice mail about home teaching one of our families tomorrow night. Steve got me home before 2 pm. He and Andy came in. I showed Steve where the monitor he gave me was. He and Andy wanted to know if they could build me something. I thought not until I remembered my bed. I suggested I would like a sturdy wooden frame to support my futon mattress and gave Andy the dimensions. After they left, I got a banana from Raymond and visited with Margaret. I copied my photos to the computer and updated my web journal. I phoned my home teaching companion back and confirmed that he can pick me up at 6:30 pm tomorrow to go home teaching. I downloaded my last five bank statements to my computer. I went online to J C Penney's and found a swimsuit for my exercise class. It is dark blue and 3XL. It should arrive within a week. I still have enough left in the bank for two sleeping bags from Bi-Mart. I checked my online messages. Emails from Amazon.com say my DVD and book should arrive by May 25th. For supper, I had "roll-ups", mixed vegetables, noodles with beef, chocolate cake, and ice cream with black cherries and chocolate. I finished checking my online messages. I watched "Wizards of Waverly Place" and a History Channel program on Ancient Astronauts. On Sodahead, I added Question #169: "Is the Moon really a spaceship?"

I read the entire talk, about the ordinances and covenants we make in the temple (minus parts about young people that didn't apply to our group), then shared Luke 15:31, "And he said to him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine", and how we should treasure those covenants we make in the temple. Two technicians were working on Willy's chair and blocking the driveway. Steve picked me up, then went to get Andy. We arrived at the temple about 10:20 am. I changed into my temple clothes and went to the chapel to wait with Steve and Andy. I compared some of the heiroglyphs for the Book of Abraham that were only to revealed in the temple, and I could see a relationship there with the temple ordinances. When they were ready, Steve pushed me to the Endowment Room. There was another brother in a wheelchair seated behind me. There were 20 patrons: 9 brothers and 11 sisters. The session went smoothly for me. I participated in the True Order of Prayer. I was not needed after I went through the veil. I waited in the Celestial Room for Steve and Andy. She stopped and waited for me to get unloaded so I met her at the corner and visited. She was just out enjoying the sunshine. I saw her engagement ring, very pretty, and showed her my new swim trunks that no one at Elderplace has even asked about. We talked about her fiancé and wedding plans. * Sis. Sabrina McCann: Dating advice. The world should not be our example. Where do you put your heart? To develop social skills.
* Sis. Jill Whittle: The Gathering of Israel in the Last Days.
* Br. Jim Lyle: Amos spoke regarding prophets. God's Plan of Happiness. (Salvation). Jeremiah, "before I had formed theii". Pre-existence. Mortality. "To bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." Covenants and commandments. The Last Judgment.
I learned that there is an Essay Contest for our Stake Flag Raising.
In Sunday School, we discussed Deborah, Gideon, and Samson.
In Hight Priest Group, we discussed the value and importance of Work, based on an October 2009 talk by Dieter F. Uchtdorf.
Larry got me home by 5:25 pm. For supper, I had cooked carrots and celery, two chicken drumsticks, and ice cream. I updated my web journal. I copied my photos to my computer. I checked my online messages.

On May 24, 2010, Monday,
I got up at 7:45 am. I checked my online messages. For breakfast, I had an egg sandwich, a doughnut, watery oatmeal, and a banana. I napped most of the morning. I checked my online messages. For lunch, I had a granola bar, a banana, and macaroni and cheese. I watched a History Channel program of a group trying to show that the Egyptians could raise heavy stones and obelisks by wind power, specifically, kites. I watched "The Astronaut Farmer". I watched a History Channel program on How the States got their Shapes. For supper, I had salisbury steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn on the cob, angel food cake, and apple wedges. I watched "O'Reilley Factor", "Hannity", and "NCIS". I watched "Chuck".

On May 25, 2010, Tuesday,
I got up at 7:15 am. I shaved with my manual razor. I checked my online messages. For breakfast, I had eggs in a biscuit, creamed beef over a biscuit, apple wedges, and applesauce. I dressed and packed to go to the temple. Winda gave me a banana and a biscuit to take with me. It was sprinking outdoors so I waited at the front window. Steve picked me up, then Andy and we drove to the temple. On the way we discussed the upcoming reorganization of the three Wards. Steve thinks I will stay in the Powell Valley Ward, but none of us really knows what is being planned. I changed into my temple clothes and went to the chapel to wait for the session to start. Steve pushed me up to Endowment Room 2 where people were still coming through the veil for some reason. Steve and I took our places and waited for the rest. There were 32 patrons in our session, 15 brothers and 17 sisters. I did not participate in the True Order of Prayer. There were 16 patrons in the circle as it was. When I got through the veil, I was directed to the Celestial Room instead of to another veil to help as I had expected. I went through the Celestial Room and used the restroom. I went back to the Celestial Room to wait for Steve and Andy but they had already gone downstairs. I went down and changed back into my street clothes. I took my noon pills (about 1 pm) and ate a banana and biscuit on the way home. Steve got me home by 2 pm. Andy took measurements of my bed for what he is building for me, before Steve took him home. I updated my web journal and copied my photos to the computer. I checked my online messages. For supper, I had angel food cake, fries, a fish sandwich, and cranberry sherbet. I watched a Science channel program on the Planets, The Voyager and Galileo probes. I watched "Robin of Loxley" (not really about Robin Hood).

On May 26, 2010, Wednesday,
I got up at 7:45 am. For breakfast, I had two rolls filled with ham and eggs, multi-grain cold cereal, and apple wedges. I checked my online messages. I cut my hair(short on the sides and back and longer on top), bathed, dressed and packed for the Water Exercise class. I took a photo of my new haircut and copied it to the computer.
For lunch, I had an egg salad sandwich, tuna noodle casserole, and orange wedges. News: The shuttle Atlantis returned from space for the last time. The U.S. National Debt just passed 13 Trillion dollars. Art Linkletter (born July 17, 1912 - May 26, 2010) died today at the age of 97.
I sang karaoke. I went out at 1:30 pm (knowing that the drivers had a 15 minute leeway) and took some photos. I talked with the guy in the motorized chair from Lois' house., When the appointed time had well passed, I went back in the house to use the restroom and retrieved Willy's iPod from charging on my computer. I went back outside and continued to wait. Matthew arrived at 1:58 pm, loaded me on his bus, and took the I-84 to the Medical Center. The last few blocks after leaving the freeway were the longest. Joe was waiting for us at the lower entrance and met us at the side entrance nearest the pool. He helped me find my way to the pool area and made sure I didn't have trouble with anything as far as changing and showering. I got into my new trunks and Philippines tee shirt and showered. Joe pushed me out to the pool where I transferred to the hydraulic chair to lower me down into the pool. Sarah was the instructor and Christine, from Elderplace, was helping with people in the pool. I'd guess there were about a dozen people in the pool at most. I was the only guy. I had some trouble with coordination, and later with the floating noodle, I discovered it was harder to keep my feet from floating upward than I would have guessed. I stayed in the whole hour, in spite of Joe thinking that because of the warm temperature (I found it "just right") I would be wanting to get out early. When I was getting dressed again, I saw some blood on the locker room floor by my towel. Joe found the source on two of my toes, slightly scraped. He paid $4 for a pair of the slippers they sell at the pool for next time. I got dressed and went out to the entrance as Matthew had not shown up yet. It was John who did pick me up. I phoned Joe to tell him that I had been picked up, as he had requested me to do. I ate the apple Winda had given me on the way home. John got me home via I-84 by 4:55 pm, so I was there before supper time. For supper, I had cucumber slices, hot three bean salad, chicken rice casserole, cake, and a fudgscicle. I showed Winda the swimming slippers. We watched "O'Reilley Factor" at the dining table. When I got back to my room, I hooked up Willy's 2nd iPod to charge. I copied my photos to the computer. I updated my web journal. I checked my online messages. At 7:50 pm, about sunset, I went out on the back yard near the South fence and sat in my chair to wait for a racoon and her younguns to come out from under the house. I sat where I could have a good view of the part of the lawn where she had been seen before. I took photos. It was amazing the things I heard as I sat there silently: birds twittering, planes roaring overhead, traffic, power tools, and leaves rustling in the breeze. I waited as it got darker and darker. Finally, it was really too dark to take a picture, even with a flash at that distance, if the raccoon did emerge. It may even have known I was there and refused to come out for that reason. I packed it up and went back inside at 9:20 pm. It was not a waste of time, for I got some interesting photos and it was relaxing. Winda gave me a bag of bagels and half of a raw cucumber for snacks. I went back to my room, copied my photos to the computer, and updated my web journal.

I went to the Columbia Room and joined in with the accordian player, as did some others.
