On July 7th, 2005, Joseph Lopez, my roommate, died in the hospital.
He is missed.

December 22nd to 26th, 2005 - I took a
train (50 miles) to spend four days with my family in the Salem area for
Christmas. My brother picked me up at the Salem Amtrak station. He drove me to
my sister's house in his Corvette, which, surprisingly, had room for my
wheelchair (folded) and luggage (I travel light). My sister's family had
colds, of which she had warned me, and were coughing a lot. I developed a
cough, too, and by the time I got home again, I was feverish. I played "Star
Wars Top Trumps" with my sister's kids. It was a little like "War", with a
twist. Due to the adults having fevers the night before Christmas Eve, when we
usually have our family gathering, it was postponed until the day after
Christmas - the day I was to return home. So I wouldn't have to go home before
the gathering, my brother volunteered to drive me home afterward. My son
brought a new game (to us, at least), called "Apples to Apples". It was really
interesting. My brother drove me home, but not in his Corvette, and we missed
the I-205 exit and had to find another way, eventually catching I-205 further
east. I spent a couple of days feeling miserable with my cold, but felt it was
all worth it for the chance to be with family for Christmas.
