Animal Talk

There was a time, the legends say,
When animals could speak.
The Bible says the serpent spake;
Was Balaamís ass a freak?
The Greeks recount a time long gone
When all the creatures spoke,
And just one language had they all
Thoí beast or human folk.
The myths of India, Nepal,
And China say the same.
If true, and creatures lost that gift,
I think it is a shame.

Iíve read that scientists have found
By studies, here and there,
That some, at least, have shown some grace
With speech when taught with care.
Do you suppose it could be true
That beasts once spoke as men?
And could you dream that when men meet
And speak as one again,
That all the beasts, for so long dumb,
Will gain that precious skill,
And once again commune with men,
At least if itís Godís will?

Love Lasts Forever

Love lasts forever, the poets knew,
Beyond this little life we view.
Tho' marriages here for Time we set;
Such feelings continue, the soul won't forget.
God in His wisdom knew we should be paired,
And so, in His plan He had something prepared,
A law, and a temple in which to fulfill
The needs of His children, to work out His will,
That all may be sealed in their times and their places
To the ones that they love, and again see their faces.
