   A Childhood Prayer

A Childhood Prayer

With "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep",
   The childhood prayer begins.
And so, I too, seek solace there,
   Where heaven's curtain thins.

"I Pray the LORD My Soul to Keep"
It says as on it goes.
As I bequeath my soul to Him
Through life with all its woes.

"If I Should Die Before I Wake"
   It’s possible, I know.
And what a wondrous thing ‘twill be,
From this drear life to go.

"I Pray the LORD My Soul to Take",
For that my heart hopes best.
For in that future realm of His
My soul with Him will rest.
