My Poems from May 2003
Poems on this page:
A compass needle
Almost free of earthly touch
Always aims you home

My first Haiku.
I submitted it to Poetry.com's daily Haiku contest the same day.
Rain falls unknowing
Soggy hillsides fill the streams
Men seek the high ground
May 13, 2003
Dusty fabric rose
Silver ring no longer worn
Pictures hurt and heal
May 14, 2003
Lying in the mud
Tracer rounds glow close above
Peaceful stars beyond

Thai Café
The Thai Café on S.E. Stark
Has lots of food that hits the mark.
And served the way that you'll enjoy.
It tastes so good, so don't be coy.
Come to Thai Café for lunch,
And come again to dine or munch.
For food to go, or stay and dine.
Éat at Thai Café; it's fine.

Touch a spider's web
Drop a stone into a pond
Changing others' lives
May 18, 2003
Songs of long ago
Aroma of rose and spice
Yet still I hope on
May 18, 2003
Memories of you
Killing and reviving me
Bring tears to my mind

Answering machine
Doesn't answer, it tells you
You have to answer

Ants run to and fro
Reaping where they did not sow
Hoarding for the snow
May 18, 2003
It made me humble;
I lost what must not be lost.
It made me stronger!

Fisher with a line
Spider hanging on a thread
Waiting for a bite

Spider web so fine,
Fisherman with nylon line,
Waiting for a sign.

David the King
David was a shepherd boy
Who God schooled to be King.
He taught him to protect the weak
And gave him songs to sing.
Goliath fell with just one stone
When Dave was just a lad,
And gained the praise of all the land
Which made King Saul go mad.
But though the King begrudged him life
The boy grew to a man.
And true he stayed to God and King
Though oft he hid or ran.
At last the time came; King Saul died
And David became King.
The men of Judah welcome him
And war with Israel bring.
For seven years they fought with them,
Then Ishbosheth was killed,
And peace was made with Israel,
Their anger finally chilled.
God made him prosper in all things
Soe'er he sought to do.
He won against their enemies
And made the nation new.
But with success came something else
He dropped his guard within;
The arrows came not from without,
He fell to mortal sin.
He looked upon another's wife,
And took his life as well.
He suffered for it 'til his death;
It's sad how far he fell,
But David turned his heart again
And bore his pain with grace,
And sung his praises to his King,
Hoping to see His face.

Keep on improving
Like a poem or statue
Making small changes

Chip at the marble
Until it takes its true form
Like shaping our lives

CHRIST
Christ came down to Earth to do
His Father's will, a body gain,
Reveal Himself to a faithful few.
Instead of us, He bore our pain,
Suffered death, and rose anew
To bring us back to Heaven again.
